The impressive building designed in 1934 by architect Clemente Busiri-Vici draws inspiration from futurist ideas and symbolist concepts. "Le Navi" is named after the peculiar shape of the building, whose walls remind of a naval fleet, and has hosted the largest Aquarium of the Adriatic Sea since 2000.
Sharks, the most dangerous sea predators, are the undisputed protagonists: the aquarium gathers 3-metre-long grey nurse sharks, sharks from the Mediterranean and the Coral Reef, hammerhead sharks and Australian Port Jackson sharks.
News 2009: the so-called "Shelter for sea turtles", a protected environment where young specimen can convalesce before being released. This project was implemented jointly by the Aquarium of Cattolica, A .Dhorn Zoological Station of Naples and its Turtle Point Branch Office - a renowned rehabilitation centre for sea turtles.
